Vivo has previously hinted that its former top-end NEX line of smartphones would make a comeback in 2022, leading to speculation that the first of these devices would become the OEM's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 vehicle. The eminent leaker Digital Chat Station may have reiterated this speculation in a new post, along with an intriguing suggestion as to how else this supposedly upcoming 3S 5G successor might stand out on the premium Android market.
To be more accurate, the tipster has been musing on how telephoto or periscope lens cameras seem not to have evolved much thus far. The OnePlus 10 Pro has one with slightly stagnant-looking 3x zoom, and other flagships seem not to have any at all, not even the new Xiaomi 12 Pro.
The NEX 5, by comparison, just might have one capable of 5x zoom - although Digital Chat Station fails to also intimate whether this spec would be optical or not. Nevertheless, the putative Vivo flagship might be capable of winning in this area.
Accordingly, the OEM might be left hoping that this whole aspect of mobile photography is falling out of style as fast as it seems to be right now: other companies have already prioritized the latest in wide- and ultrawide-angle technology instead (not to speak of the potential creep factor of high-intensity zoom on a smartphone).
Otherwise, the NEX 5 is now also touted to launch as a true phablet with a screen size of no less than 7 inches in diagonal length. Some consumers might be happy to see this coming; however, the same display might be of the ever-polarizing quad-curved variety.
