Vivo launches new premium foldable smartphone globally to take on Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra

Following the China launch in June, Vivo has now officially launched its latest generation foldable smartphone, the X Fold6, in Europe. It directly competes with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, offering a robust array of features. The Chinese variant of the X Fold6 is slightly different from the global variant. Speaking more precisely, the China model offers a 7,000 mAh battery, while the global variant ships with a slightly smaller 6,900 mAh BlueVolt battery with support for 80 W wired and 40 W wireless charging. We actually did a review of the Chinese variant. You can find details here.
Dimension-wise, the book-style foldable smartphone measures 9.4 mm (0.37 inches when folded) and 4.4 mm (0.17 inches) when unfolded, weighing around 228 grams (8.04 ounces). In comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra (curr. at $2,099.99 on Amazon) is lighter and thinner than the X Fold6, measuring just 8.9 mm (0.35 inches) when folded and 4.1 mm (0.16 inches) when unfolded, while weighing 215 grams (7.58 ounces).
Under the hood, the foldable device is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 Super chipset paired with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage. It boots OriginOS7 for Fold out of the box. Interestingly, Vivo promises 5 years of major OS updates (up to Android 23) and 7 years of security patches until 2033. Although this commitment still falls a little short of what Samsung offers, which is 7+7 (Android OS upgrades + security patches) years of software support for its latest generation foldable.
Moreover, the smartphone comes with a Zeiss-tuned triple rear camera setup, consisting of a 200 MP Zeiss main camera, a 50 MP Zeiss APO telephoto lens, and a 50 MP ultra-wide shooter. Upfront, there is a 20 MP snapper at the main and cover display for selfies and video chats. As for the screen, it sports an 8.02-inch Zeiss Master 8T LTPO main display that resolves at 2504 x 2312 pixels, while the cover display measures 6.51 inches with 2528 x 1120 pixel resolutions. Both panels support a 120 Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 5,000 nits and come with HDR Vivid, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision certifications.
Other features include dual stereo speakers, WiFi 6, an imaging chip V3+, NFC, and IPX8/IPX9/IP5X water and dust resistance. On top of these features, the foldable is also compatible with the Vivo Zeiss Telephoto Extender Gen 2, which enabled a 200 mm equivalent focal length across photo and video. The extender measures 96 mm (3.78-inch) in length and weighs 153 grams (5.4 ounces).
Available in black and blue colorways, the Vivo X Fold6 starts at €2,199. It is now available in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland via Vivo’s official website.
