The Vivo X Fold5 weighs a mere 217 g is just 9.2 mm thick. Nonetheless, the foldable combines a huge 6,000 mAh battery with a high-end camera system and the first Android smartphone that can pair with an Apple Watch. The X Fold5 is relatively affordable too, thanks to Vivo's usage of Qualcomm's cheaper Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.

Vivo has finally replaced the X Fold3 and X Fold3 Pro with the X Fold5 after the countless teasers it has published in the last few weeks. In short, the X Fold5 mirrors its predecessor's pricing while offering better cameras than the X Fold3 Pro and other recent foldables like the Galaxy Z Fold6 (curr. $999 - refurbished on Amazon).

To achieve this, Vivo has retained the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 from the X Fold3 Pro rather than adopting the newer Snapdragon 8 Elite. Nonetheless, the X Fold5 also features a 6,000 mAh combined battery capacity that supports 80 W wired and 40 W wireless charging, as well as LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 flash storage. Meanwhile, Vivo has included the following camera hardware, too:

  • Front-facing cameras: 20 MP, f/2.4
  • Main camera: 50 MP, f/1.57, 1/1.56-inch optical format, Sony IMX921 sensor
  • Telephoto: 50 MP, f/2.55, 1/1.95-inch optical format, 3x optical zoom, Sony IMX882 sensor
  • Ultra-wide: 50 MP, f/2.05, 1/2.76-inch optical format, 15 mm equivalent focal length

As expected, Vivo's new telephoto camera also handles macro photography. The 8.03-inch and 6.53-inch displays from last year's models return, albeit with an LTPO backplane added behind the cover display for improved power efficiency purposes. Other highlights include IP5X and IPX9 ratings against dust and water ingress, as well as deep Apple ecosystem integration with access to Apple Watch pairing, macOS screen mirroring and iCloud services.

Unfortunately, Vivo has quietly included a capacitive side-mounted fingerprint scanner rather than the dual ultrasonic solution found in the X Fold3 Pro. With that being said, the X Fold5 is thinner than its predecessors at 4.3 mm unfolded and 9.2 mm in its folded state. Likewise, the X Fold5 comes in at 217 g. For some reason, this only applies to the device's Titanium variant. By contrast, the Pine and White versions measure 4.55 mm and 9.7 mm, with 226 g quoted as their official weights.

The X Fold5 starts at CNY 6,999 (~$975) in China with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. However, the foldable rises to CNY 7,999 (~$1,115) with 512 GB of storage, CNY 8,499 (~$1,185) when opting for 16 GB of RAM as well or CNY 9,499 (~$1,324) with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. While Vivo has not officially confirmed international launch plans yet, the X Fold5 is expected to arrive in India by the middle of July.
