The Motorola Edge 60 is a decent smartphone and stands out from other mid-range smartphones with its strong features, including a bright display, long battery life and a good triple camera. However, buyers should be aware of a few drawbacks.

The 6.67-inch Motorola Edge 60 officially costs €430, but at the time of review, it was already dropping to the €400 mark. The mid-range smartphone is equipped with a generous 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage, of which the latter can be expanded via a microSD slot. Cards up to 1 TB in size are possible.

High-quality housing with IP69 certification

In our tests, the 179-gram Edge 60 impressed with its high-quality housing, which, unusually for this price range, also boasts IP69 certification. This protects it not only against dust and moisture, but also against high-temperature water jets.

The P-OLED screen, which extends over the edges and is protected by Gorilla Glass 7i, gives the Edge 60 an impressive screen-to-body ratio of around 96%. Thanks to its rubberized and slightly roughened silicone back, which has a faux leather finish on the green color variant and a fabric finish on the blue color variant, the smartphone feels very high-quality.

OLED screen with 4000 nits & 3x optical zoom

In testing, the P-OLED screen, which Motorola advertises as capable of 4500 nits, reaches a brightness of almost 4000 cd/m², making it significantly brighter than the displays of many mid-range competitors. This also makes the Motorola smartphone more than ideal for outdoor use.

The Edge 60 also offers more than the standard camera module. In addition to a 50 MP main camera and an ultra-wide-angle camera with a resolution of 50 MP, it also includes a 10 MP telephoto camera. The latter offers a 3x optical telephoto zoom, resulting in a total focal length range of 12 to 73 mm. The Edge 60 takes solid photos, which the camera software automatically readjusts for strong colors and high contrast, which sometimes makes the shots appear quite bright.

Fully recharged in 50 minutes

The Edge 60 draws long battery life from its 5200 mAh battery. In our tests, it lasted almost 20 hours during simulated web browsing and over 23 hours when playing an HD video on a continuous loop. In practice, the smartphone should easily last two days in a row, even with intensive use, before needing to be recharged. Recharging strength is 68 watts, meaning the Edge 60 reaches 100% in just 50 minutes. However, buyers will have to obtain the appropriate power adapter themselves, as it's not included in the box.

Cons: Slow Wi-Fi 6 and updates only until 2029

The MediaTek Dimensity 7300 confers solid performance on the Edge 60, making demanding games like Genshin Impact enjoyable (averaging 30 FPS in our tests). However, compared to other smartphones in the same price range, performance values are average at best.

The Edge 60 also failed to win us over in the Wi-Fi test, as the data throughput is quite slow at 372 Mbps despite the Wi-Fi 6 module. Software updates are advertised until 2029, and Motorola also promises three OS upgrades. Both are decent, but with six and seven years of updates, respectively, Samsung and Google remain the benchmark in terms of support.
