UNA Watch: Repairable Garmin alternative launches with 10-day battery life and MIP display

Regular readers may recall the UNA Watch, which is now available to order directly from the manufacturer for £240. International buyers should pay close attention to the shipping terms, as extra delivery fees apply outside the UK, with prices converted accordingly.

The smartwatch is held together by standard screws, allowing users to perform their own repairs. Fixability isn't limited to the battery—the screen, for example, can also be swapped out, making future hardware module upgrades conceivable. Under the hood lies the UNA Core module, driven by an ARM Cortex-M33 MCU paired with 4 GB of eMMC storage and running a FreeRTOS fork. Its 1.2-inch MIP display features a resolution of 240 x 240 pixels and LED backlighting, ensuring excellent outdoor readability in direct sunlight with minimal backlight reliance. Powering the wearable is a 280 mAh battery rated for at least 10 days of battery life.

The UNA Watch is well-equipped in terms of sensors, packing a dual-band GNSS module alongside an accelerometer and a barometer. Optical heart rate monitoring allows users to track workout intensity and gauge overall training efficacy, with full support for Strava synchronization. Notably, while UNA advertises compliance with the IPX5 water resistance standard, the company explicitly warns that the watch is not intended for swimming.
