Tranquil IT readies fanless rugged mini PC with Intel Alder Lake-U CPUs
Fanless mini PCs are starting to become more popular as ultra-low voltage processors from the past few generations increasingly improve upon the balance between consumed power and performance. Tranquil IT is at the forefront when it comes to silent builds, and now the UK company is diversifying its offering with more powerful rugged models that can withstand harsh outdoors conditions for greater freedom.
Tranquil IT is using in-house designs and milling for the rugged aluminium chassis of the new Tranquil IT All Terrain mini PCs. Without any active ventilation that needs to circulate air inside the unit, the latest All Terrain models with IP66 rating can operate even when exposed to dust, water, and extreme cold or hot weather (-10º C to 60º C operational). This solution is both targeted at industrial use cases and customers that need expanded autonomy.
Granted, the rugged chassis is somewhat larger that the average fanless mini PC at 60 x 208 x 263 mm and 3.4 kg, but this also allows the integration of more powerful components like Intel’s Alder Lake-U processors, including the i3-1210U, i5-1235U and i7-1255U. These systems support up to 64 GB DDR4-3200 RAM and up to 8 TB SATA3 SSD storage via a single SATA3 port.
The port selection is somewhat limited with only 2x USB-A 3.0, but there also are 2x GbE jacks, DP and HDMI video outs, separate audio and mic jacks plus a sim slot for optional 4G connectivity. Wireless connectivity options include up to a Wi-Fi 6E + BT 5.3 card. Encryption is ensured with an fTPM2 module and Tranquil also provides a IP68 Buccaneer 4000 power socket with IP66 power cord.
