Asus NUC 13 Rugged mini PC breaks cover with fanless chassis
Built for challenging conditions, the Asus NUC 13 Rugged has made its official debut. It is available in two different variants. The first one comes with either a 6-watt Intel Atom x7211E or a 12-watt Atom x7425E processor. Asus calls it “Tall” as it comes with passive cooling fins and has external antennas.
Next is the NUC 13 Rugged Short, which features a 6-watt Intel N50 CPU. It doesn’t have the passive cooling fins on the top, and there’s no support for external antennas. Besides the processor and design, the two new variants have different operating points.
The Asus NUC 13 Rugged Tall with Intel Atom x7425E can operate within 32 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit (0 to 50 degrees Celcius). The rest can operate in the 32 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit (0 to 40 degrees Celcius) range. Also, both the mini PC models have a fanless design and are rated for 24/7 operation for up to five years.
As far as the other specs go, the NUC 13 Rugged mini PC models come with a single SODIMM slot that can hold up to 16 GB of RAM. In terms of storage, it features an M.2 2280 slot capable of accommodating PCIe x2 SSD. It also has an M.2 3042 slot for additional SSD and other modules.
Regarding ports, the Asus NUC 13 Rugged mini PC has two USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A, two USB 2.0 Type-A, two HDMI 2.1, and two RJ45 Ethernet ports. For wireless connectivity, there are Bluetooth 5.2 and WiFi 6E.
