The new ZimaCube, a type of personal NAS (network-attached storage) for building your own cloud, is also based these qualities. However, this description falls short, as the flexible software and hardware, along with a PCIe connection, is likely to make the ZimaCube significantly more flexible than other major competing products, thus inviting potential users to give it a try and create a diverse range of projects.
The ZimaCube is essentially a personal, cube-shaped NAS storage unit for backing up data and projects. The standard model and the ZimaCube Pro are on offer. The latter comes with a Creator Pack, which includes the Nvidia Quadro RTX A2000 12GB professional graphics card. But first things first.
The standard version of the ZimaCube comes with the 4-core Intel Processor N100 with 3.4 GHz. The Pro model, on the other hand, houses the 10-core Intel Core i5-1235U with up to 4.4 GHz. While the Pro model has 64 GB RAM (2x 32 GB), the normal ZimaCube has 1x 16 GB available.
The most important aspect of a NAS is certainly the memory. Both models offer 6 storage bays for HDDs (6+1). In addition, each NAS has internal system storage in the form of an SSD with 256 GB of space. There are two additional M.2 slots on the standard model, while the Pro model also has the 2 NVMe slots onboard, plus 4 external NVMe connections. This means that virtually all storage devices can be connected, from 2.5 to 3.5-inch HDDs, 2.5-inch SSDs and NVMe SSDs.
The ZimaCube has two 2.5 Gb/s ports for network connections, while the Pro has four ports. There are also various USB A and C ports, but only the Pro model has two Thunderbolt 4 ports. As usual with manufacturer IceWhale, there is one PCIe slot (Gen3 x 4) for almost unlimited expandability and even two in the Pro (Gen4 x 4, Gen4 x16).
Delivery is expected to take place from March 2024. We are in contact with the manufacturers and will receive a test unit.
