Traces of a Redmi 10 2022 appear to further congest the crowded Xiaomi smartphone space
Recent headlines about Xiaomi have concerned rumors and leaks about the upcoming Xiaomi 12 series, which typical for the Chinese OEM will undoubtedly consist of a fair number of handsets to choose from; for instance, the Xiaomi Mi 11 range features six members. But Xiaomi also has to keep chugging along with its Redmi sub-brand releases, and for some reason a Redmi 10 2022 device has turned up.
While there are expectations for the upcoming Redmi Note 11T and some mysterious Dimensity 2000-powered phones, no-one would have guessed at the potential presence of a Redmi 10 2022. Of course, Xiaomi has history with re-releasing older devices, such as the Redmi Note 8 2021 that came two years after its original namesake but with a different chip and updated Bluetooth support.
But the Redmi 10 was launched in August 2021, so even a 2022 release for a reissue would seem far too early. However, the evidence is there and has been shared by Kacper Skrzypek, with the model number 21121119SG in one of the IMEI records signifying a global model. No other details about the Redmi 10 2022 are offered up in the records but 5G implementation could be a possibility (with a different SoC required).
Perhaps the chip shortage forced Xiaomi to cut corners with the Redmi 10 (we praised the 90 Hz display but were left unimpressed by the 50 MP camera). Either way, producing such a phone, especially so shortly after the original release, is likely to leave consumers not only confused but further bewildered by Xiaomi’s burgeoning selection in the smartphone market.
