Developed by Rejected Games Studio and released in 2021, Mr. Prepper is a game about being prepared for anything that poses a risk to your way of life, be it the risk of Nuclear war or, as the game puts it, “Struggle for your freedom” against the “authoritarian government.”
The game requires players to build and manage an underground shelter, complete with farms, greenhouses, tools, and vehicles that will help them survive. Gamers gain access to a complex crafting system, allowing them to scavenge resources and trade with others to get what they need.
One can also explore a richly crafted world with a powerful building system, crafting and customizing their own shelter as per their needs. Players will have to evade the secret police who’ve also taken an interest in them recently, because of their refusal to obey their whims.
While stocking up and collecting items for your ultimate survival shelter, players must hide their activities from the authorities. The shelter isn’t your only objective; it’s a means to get to the endgame: leaving this (allegedly) oppressive land by building a secret rocket. Governments of any kind wouldn’t take very kindly to that, let alone the oppressive parody regime in the game.
Preppers can also get their hands on two pieces of DLC content, Mr. Prepper - Uranium Project DLC, where doomsday aficionados gain access to a “long-abandoned nuclear power plant on the outskirts of town.” It also adds another 15 hours of gameplay on top of the base game, along with new mechanics, minigames, and levels.
A second DLC called Mr. Prepper - Animal Farm DLC is also on offer. Here, “the Agency has trusted you with the task of getting the Murricaville’s farm back in shape,” which involved taking care of the animals and implementing them as part of your own shelter. It focuses on adding more content to the game, including decorations, animal-related items, and fishing.
With both DLCs on sale individually and also as part of a bundle for gamers looking to score a complete package, now might be the best time to jump the proverbial gun on this title.
Mr. Prepper received favourable reviews upon release, with fans and critics praising its atmosphere and setting. It is rated Very Positive, with over 4,000 positive reviews on Steam, where it can be purchased for $3.99 (80% off) until the 23rd of January.
