Back in May, we reported that PIONER’s open beta was just around the corner – and now it’s finally here. The MMO shooter drops players into the decaying remnants of a Soviet-inspired world, torn apart by deadly anomalies and violent faction conflicts. Blending Fallout-style storytelling with the gritty atmosphere reminiscent of S.T.A.L.K.E.R., PIONER stands out as one of the most promising new MMOs of the year.
The open beta offers around 30 hours of content, featuring the first five acts of the main campaign alongside a broad mix of PvE and PvP modes. Two challenging raids – Crash Site and Manufacture – demand tight team coordination, while the open zones Rogue Wastelands and Murky Swamps introduce global quests, world bosses, and deep exploration mechanics. Competitive players can jump into classic ranked deathmatches or test their luck in the Carnage Tournament card game, complete with collectible decks and rewards. For added intensity, the Shadowlands mode delivers high-stakes gameplay where players fight for valuable loot and must escape hostile zones alive – evoking strong Escape from Tarkov vibes.
In terms of gameplay, PIONER blends MMO elements with survival mechanics, trading a traditional leveling system for smart resource management, careful planning, and high-quality gear. Survival often depends on what you craft and what you scavenge, with a deep crafting system playing a central role. The world is shaped by multiple factions, and earning their loyalty can unlock key strategic advantages. Combat clearly draws inspiration from S.T.A.L.K.E.R., focusing on tense, first-person firefights. Rather than fast-paced arcade action, the game embraces a slower, more tactical approach that keeps the pressure high at all times.
Sign-ups now open on Steam
With the launch of its open beta, PIONER reaches its biggest milestone yet. Following several closed testing phases, this marks the most significant trial ahead of the game’s full release, planned for late 2025. While all progress will be wiped once the beta ends, participation is completely free. Interested players can register directly via the game’s Steam page. The test is scheduled to run until November 11, 2025.
