Arc Raiders update: Embark Studios to distribute 150 million tokens across 300,000 players after server issues

After a monumental launch for Embark Studios’ sci-fi ‘70s extraction shooter, Arc Raiders, the game is seemingly suffering from success. Arc Raiders has sold 1.5 million copies in three days and reached an astonishing 354,836 concurrent players on Steam. However, the influx of players proved a bit too much for the studios’ servers, causing hour-long queue sessions and matchmaking delays, with the developers downplaying it as a “wobble.”

As expected, fans flocked to social Steam forums and Reddit to report their queue issues, with some players reporting being kicked from matches. In contrast, others were queued in a party despite opting for a solo playthrough, something that could be significantly punishing for a game that generally ups the ante for party squads in general. SteamDB stats reported a sudden dip at the 338,000 player mark. Thankfully, servers stabilized, but some players may not be thrilled about the whole affair that could cost them loot and time alike.

Keeping in view of the circumstances, Embark Studios quickly dropped an announcement on their Discord server to make amends, stating, “We are overwhelmed by how many of you joined the fight against the Arc. Your bravery and resilience are truly inspiring… To show our appreciation, we’re sending you 500 Raider Tokens to use as you see fit.” 

Embark Studios also published a separate post on X, poking fun at the server issues with some in-game lore, “We appreciate your patience as our servers had a wobble on Sunday, Scrappy must’ve pecked a few wires loose; he’s been put on the naughty step. As a token of our thanks, we’re sending 500 Raider tokens to all Raiders who logged in on Sunday.”

500 free Raider tokens is a respectable gesture from Embark Studios, and could potentially cost the studio hundreds of thousands, considering the devs have to distribute nearly 150 million tokens across 300,000 players. 

To put things into perspective, 500 Raider tokens are valued at $5.00 or $4.99 on Xbox. Furthermore, players who took part in the October Server Slam Playtest will be handed the Server Slammer Hiker Backpack.

It’s a generous gesture from the community-oriented studio, which took a positive approach rather than apologizing without following through on its promises. Arc Raiders is still the hottest extraction shooter on Steam currently, touching 300,000 concurrent players on the platform at the time of writing.
