If you’re in the mood for a darker take on games like Stardew Valley, Graveyard Keeper might be just what you’re looking for. The RPG is currently on sale on Steam for around $4 – an 80% discount from its usual $20 price tag, matching its previous lowest price.

Graveyard Keeper shares many gameplay elements with Stardew Valley – you gather resources, manage your property, build relationships with villagers, and explore the occasional dungeon. The key difference? Instead of a cozy seaside town, your life revolves around a neglected cemetery.

Instead of growing sunflowers or charming villagers, your days in Graveyard Keeper are spent preparing corpses, maintaining graves, and striking shady deals with the locals. According to Polygon, the game is far more complex and demanding than Stardew Valley. It leans less on relaxing routines and more on careful planning and resource management. Progress is tied to a branching tech tree, where new workshops, materials, and recipes must be unlocked step by step. That’s why the outlet called it “a dark and difficult version of Stardew Valley.”

According to TrueAchievements, Graveyard Keeper offers around 60 to 80 hours of gameplay and includes substantial expansions such as Stranger Sins and Game of Crone. These add new mechanics – like running your own tavern – and expand the backstories of several villagers. The main criticism lies in the heavy grind, with complex production chains and long walking distances. It’s also worth noting that the game supports only a single save slot. On the plus side, it offers full controller support and is listed as “Playable” on the Steam Deck (available on Amazon for about $440).

Due to the issues mentioned, Graveyard Keeper has received mixed reviews on Metacritic, holding a Metascore of 69 and a User Score of 7.2. On Steam, however, the response has been far more positive – with around 45,000 player reviews and an average rating of 86%.

80% discount on Steam

Graveyard Keeper normally sells for around $20 on Steam, but until November 10 it’s available at an 80% discount, bringing the price down to just under $4. According to SteamDB, this matches its lowest price to date – though it’s not the first time the game has been discounted this heavily.
