The Xiaomi Mi A2 receives its final allotted update, leaving the Mi A3 as Xiaomi's last active Android One smartphone
Xiaomi has started rolling out V11.0.28.0.QDIMIXM to the Mi A2, an update that brings the device onto the July 2021 security patch. V11.0.28.0.QDIMIXM follows almost a month to the day after V11.0.27.0.QDIMIXM, which was also just contained a new security patch. You can read about what changes the July 2021 security patch makes in Google's latest Android Security Bulletin.
V11.0.28.0.QDIMIXM could prove to be the last official update for the Mi A2. This month's update marks the device's third anniversary, which is also when Xiaomi's promise for security patch updates ends. Hence, there is no guarantee that the Mi A2 will receive the August 2021 security patch, or any subsequent patches for that matter.
Ultimately, this month's update for the Mi A2 leaves the Mi A3 as the last Android One smartphone that Xiaomi will continue to support. Xiaomi released the Mi A3 in July 2019, so it should receive at least another year's worth of security patch updates. Google has removed all Xiaomi smartphones from its Android One program, so it seems unlikely that the company plans to release any more Android One-branded smartphones soon.
