The Mi A3 may be on its way out but Xiaomi continues to grace owners of the phone with monthly updates. After the November update came rather late, the Mi A3 is now receiving the December patch. It's a rather unusual OTA as well, weighing in at a massive 458 MB.

The Mi A3 stands firm as Xiaomi's Android One device and while it'll be on its way out on about six months, Xiaomi continues to provide it with steady, mostly timely security updates.

The latest update to hit the Mi A3 is the December patch, as it arrives on global models of the device. The OTA bears the designation "V12.0.17.0 RFQMIXM" denoting that it's an Android 11-based build for the global Mi A3. Interestingly, this update weighs in at a hefty 458 MB. That is not at all normal for Android One security patches, as they're typically smaller than 100 MB. We're not sure what else this OTA delivers.

While this may just be for global units, we expect European variants to start receiving the update soon. The Mi A3 has, of course, received its two promised major OS updates and so will not be getting Android 12 officially. Security patches are scheduled to end in July 2022 as well.
