The Xiaomi Mi A2 joins the Mi A2 Lite with a new update
The Mi A2 has received another update, but it is nothing to shout about. Xiaomi released the Android One device in July 2018, so it is now beyond its two-year window for OS updates. The Mi A2 should still receive software updates until July 2021, but these are unlikely to bring any new features to the device.
Instead, Xiaomi will continue to push security patch updates, which are still worthwhile. Correspondingly, the new update, which is called V220.127.116.11.QDIMIXM, upgrades the Mi A2 to the August 2020 set of security patches. Xiaomi has stressed that while the update is stable, it is currently undergoing a partial rollout. Specifically, V18.104.22.168.QDIMIXM is being issued in phases as an over-the-air (OTA) upgrade and apparently to a random selection of handsets.
The new update for the Mi A2 puts it on parity with the Mi A2 Lite, which received the same security patch earlier this month. Nonetheless, some people are unhappy that Xiaomi has left multiple bugs unaddressed, months after it upgraded the Mi A2 to Android 10. Apparently, some devices have been suffering with significant battery drain since switching to Android 10, while full-screen gestures cease to function when running a third-party launcher. If you are itching to download the latest security patch for your Mi A2, then head to System within Settings and select System Update. If your device is eligible, then a notice to download V22.214.171.124.QDIMIXM should appear along with a changelog detailing the single change that Xiaomi has made with this month's update.
