Nokia has recently announced that one of its cheapest devices, the 1, now has an update to Android 9.0 (Pie). This is extremely good news for those in the market for budget devices. As though not to be outdone, the OPPO brand Realme has done likewise with its own phone of the same name.
The Realme 1 was launched in May of last year as a 6.0-inch device at a price-point of about US$150. It runs ColorOS, a system based on stock Android that is found on both Realme and OPPO phones, even flagships like the Reno 10x Zoom edition.
Recently, Realme has initiated a roll-out of ColorOS 6 for the 1. It is based in Android Pie, and thus contains up-to-date features such as navigation features, live wallpapers and a May 2019 security patch level. This is further evidence that consumers these days don’t need to look to the highest-end of smartphones for assurances of decent software-level support.
