The OxygenOS 11 update is coming to the OnePlus Nord soon; OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T users may have to wait a bit longer
OnePlus is pretty much one of the best there is when it comes to delivering timely software updates. It is one of the few OEMs that promised users three major software updates when two were considered 'industry standard'. Both the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro are already running Android 11-based OxygenOS 11. There was no word about when their predecessors -the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7- would receive the software, until now.
A post on the official OnePlus forums gives us a fairly decent idea about what's going on behind the scenes. The OnePlus Nord will be at the receiving end of OxygenOS 11 soon, as registrations for the open beta are set to open next week. It can take 3-4 weeks for a stable build to be rolled out after a beta program commences. However, it could take a bit longer if the software is found to be buggy. Ideally, a stable OxygenOS 11 build for the OnePlus Nord should be out by the first week of February if things go according to plan.
Unfortunately, things are not so simple for OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T users. Both phones were slated to receive the software in December, but that got postponed. It turns out that the OxygenOS 11 build caused some data decryption issues in both devices. OnePlus is working in tandem with Qualcomm to fix the problem. It is hard to determine when that will happen. Hence, there's no telling when the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T will get their OxygenOS 11 update. Given OnePlus' impressive track record so far, it shouldn't be that long of a wait.
Lastly, OnePlus 6, OnePlus 6T, OnePlus Nord N100 and OnePlus Nord N10 5G users may have to wait a while before getting a taste of Oxygen OS11. It is unlikely that either device will get the software before the OnePlus 7 series does. A delayed update for the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T isn't all that perturbing, considering that both phones are quite old. Android 11 is, after all, the last major update for both devices.
