The OnePlus 7 will not feature wireless charging
Over the past few years, wireless charging has become a feature that differentiates premium phones from the rest of the less-impressive pack. Sadly, OnePlus has yet to bring that feature to its smartphones. According to a new report, OnePlus fans will have to wait a while longer to get wireless charge, as the OnePlus 7 will also not sport that feature.
"OnePlus charging is one of the best," OnePlus CEO Pete Lau is reported to have said earlier this week at MWC 2019. "Wireless charging is far inferior."
There is truth to that, of course. OnePlus’s Dash Charge is one of the most capable fast-charging technologies in the industry, capable of charging the company's phones from 0-100% in about an hour. Compared to that, wireless charging can only be described as inadequate at best.
However, wireless charging, no matter how much slower it is when compared to wired charging, is something of a feature of convenience, and it’s a shame to see that the OnePlus 7 will not support it. Most companies now include Qi Wireless Charging support on their flagships—even Xiaomi—and it’s disappointing to see OnePlus behind the curve. There’s also the fact that wireless charging is progressively being improved, and we even saw an all-new 20W wireless fast charge on the new Xiaomi Mi 9.
OnePlus phones have embraced glass backs over the past few iterations, so there’s not much stopping the OPPO subsidiary from implementing the feature. Other than cost-cutting, of course.
