The Nomad is a tablet designed for a variety of scenarios. Fundamentally, the system is marketed as a waterproof rugged tablet with four speakers, making it suitable as a mobile device for music playback. It is also compatible with CarPlay, meaning that the model can not only be used for car entertainment, but can also display navigation instructions.
According to the manufacturer, the best case scenario for music playback is a runtime of over 20 hours, while videos can be played for over 5 hours. Since Android is the installed operating system, there are no limitations on media formats or content; playback is not only possible from locally saved content or content saved on a microSD card, but apps from various streaming service providers can also be installed.
The 8-inch touchscreen is said to have an HD resolution and a brightness of 900 cd/m², while a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 is installed as the SoC. The volume can be easily adjusted via accessible buttons. Various mounts are available, such as for the shower or cup holder.
The Nomad is currently on offer for a starting price of $249 as part of a crowdfunding campaign and is due to start shipping in February 2025. As always, crowdfunding campaigns always harbor financial risk, although Kickstarter campaigns only charge supporters if funding succeeds. Those who do not wish to wait are advised to take a look at other CarPlay displays at Amazon, some of which are considerably cheaper.
