Call of Duty and its various sequels have amassed a total of 60.5 million units sold for either the Xbox One or the PlayStation 4 (PS4) as of January 2020. These figures have been released by LeagueofBetting, which also puts Black Ops 3 as second only to GTA V on its rankings of best-selling titles for either console.
Call of Duty: WWII and Infinite Warfare also featured in this top 10 of most-sold PS4 games for the start of 2020, selling 13.4 million and 8.5 million copies respectively. The 3 titles were responsible for 36.9 million units (or 61.5% of the total console-title shipments up until January) combined.
As for the Xbox, LeagueofBetting found that Black Ops 3 was also the second best-selling game of all time on this platform. It moved 7.37 million copies for this console, whereas 6.23 million of its WWII counterparts and 4.79 million Infinite Warfare units have been sold thus far. Advanced Warfare also figured in this top 10, selling 5.22 million units over its lifetime.
Therefore, the Call of Duty franchise seems to be going from strength to strength since its creation by Infinite Ward in 2004. In addition, its recent foray into the battle-royale format has worked out well for it: Warzone has reportedly taken less time to 15 million players from launch than did either Apex Legends or Fortnite.
