The Asus ROG Maximus XII motherboard series will have 4 variants: new leak
Earlier leaks had confirmed the existence of the XII-generation of the ROG Maximus motherboards. Now, VideoCardz has published what it claims is this series' full product data-sheet, leaked courtesy of WhyCry. It shows that this line-up consists of 5 options: the XII Hero (Wi-Fi); Apex; Formula; Extreme and Extreme Glacial.
They are backed up by images and spec sheets, with the exception of the latter, which is thought to be a SKU of the XII Extreme in a different color (white?... or, perhaps, icy blue?...) in any case. As all of these boards support PCI Express 3.0 rather than 4.0, they are now all thought to be destined for Comet Lake-S processors.
All 4 boards as described also support the latest in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth standards, although they diverge in terms of wired cards. The XII Formula and Extreme are set up to support 10-gigabit (Gb) Ethernet, whereas the best the new Hero and Apex can do is 5 and 2.5Gb respectively.
Then again, the latter is the only one of the apparent new series to support up to 2xDDR4-5000 memory, whereas the rest have 4 slots for overclocked DDR4-4800 memory. They all have a power stage design equal to 16, as well as multi-card SLI/CFX interfaces. Unfortunately, this apparently official product info does not stretch to a launch date for this new hardware.
