Tesla's heavily camouflaged robotaxi prototype spotted and photographed for the first time
Tesla's Robotaxi project is a central part of Elon Musk's vision for the future of autonomous driving. A prototype of the self-driving car was recently spotted in heavily camouflaged form on the grounds of Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California. A photo, originally posted on Reddit and later deleted, shows the cloaked yellow vehicle next to a Tesla Model Y.

The actual design can only be guessed at through the yellow foil. Despite the camouflage, however, the Robotaxi allows some conclusions to be drawn. The prototype appears to be smaller than the Model Y and has some design features that are similar to the previous concept drawings of the Robotaxi. The flat front and the rearward sloping windshield are striking. In addition, a continuous rear light extends across the entire width of the rear - a design element that can also be found on the Tesla Cybertruck.
On the roof of the prototype, there is an elevation that could possibly house a LiDAR sensor. This would be surprising, however, as Tesla has always emphasized that LiDAR technology is unnecessary for autonomous driving. The official unveiling of the Robotaxi is expected on October 10, 2024. Experts assume that the vehicle will be based on the platform of the planned, more affordable Tesla Model 2, which is to be launched on the market at a price of less than 30,000 US dollars.
