At RE+ 2024, Eaton announced its partnership with Tesla to make it easier and faster for customers to upgrade to residential solar and energy systems. The collaboration will also optimize the Eaton AbleEdge smart breaker.

Planned for early 2025, Power management company Eaton and Tesla have announced a collaboration to bring optimizations to Eaton’s new AbleEdge Smart breakers, allowing for easier and faster installation of Telsa’s Powerwall system. Using an intelligent load management system, the AbleEdge Smart breakers will optimize energy usage and aid in extending the duration of power backups during grid outages.

The collaboration with Tesla reflects Eaton’s continued pursuit to transform homes into energy producers as a part of their “Home as a grid” initiative. For homes utilizing any of Eaton’s BR loadcenter and meter breakers, the new AbleEdge smart breakers will be able to be integrated into their system with minimal effort. Upon installing the Powerwall systems, homeowners can control the Powerwall and AbleEdge Smart breaker from Tesla’s app. In addition to power usage efficiencies, Eaton states that the collaboration with Tesla will abide by Eaton’s “secure-by-design philosophy” and that partnership will prioritize security at every step of the production process.

As Tesla and other manufacturers move forward with advancements in energy storage and usage, it is crucial for home infrastructure to be able to keep up with the increased demand for power. Eaton estimates that there will be a 65 percent increase in residential and commercial energy usage by 2050, with up to 60 percent of the rise due to electric vehicle charging. Systems like the AbleEdge smart breakers will be instrumental in maximizing the efficiency of the growing energy demands. For more information on the system, visitors can find Eaton's page below.
