A well-known TV manufacturer brand, TCL, has expanded its smart home accessory portfolio by launching a new D2 Pro palm vein smart door lock. TCL has introduced three new smart door locks under the D2 series: the D2, the D2 Plus, and the D2 Pro. The smart door lock builds on the success of the first-generation D1 Pro, bringing noticeable upgrades in terms of battery capacity and other new features. To be more precise, the TCL D2 Pro now comes with a built-in doorbell.
As its name suggests, the TCL D2 Pro utilizes an AI-powered palm vein recognition technology to unlock the door. This technology analyzes the blood vessels under the skin and promises 99.99% accuracy and recognition in 0.3 seconds. The lock’s biometric authentication method is advertised as working flawlessly even with wet or dirty fingers. Alternatively, you can use four different methods to unlock your door, including app, passcodes, key, and voice control unlock.
We already covered the D2 Pro smart lock in a separate piece; you can read that here. Unlike the D2 Pro, the base D2 and D2 Plus lack palm vein recognition; instead, both come with PIN, physical key, and mobile app authentication methods. The D2 Plus also has an AI-enhanced fingerprint biometric authentication option, which the Pro and base D2 variants lack.
One thing that is common in the D2 series is voice control via Amazon Alexa/Google Assistant, remote unlock, and app control with real-time notifications and activity history. The D2 series is also compatible with 2.4 GHz WiFi and comes with an auto-lock function for enhanced home security. Unlike the D2 Pro with a rechargeable battery, the D2 Plus is powered by AA batteries, and the company claims that it lasts up to 9 months on a single set.
As far as the pricing and availability are concerned, the TCL D2 Pro is priced at $169.99, the D2 Plus starts at $119.99, while the base D2 variant will set you back $79.99. The TCL D2 series is now available for purchase via TCL’s official website and Amazon.
