The display specialist TCL has reported its sales performance for the first quarter of 2020 (1Q2020). This company sold 6.73 million of its TVs during this period. This figure was down by approximately 20% year-on-year (YoY), however, which was attributed to the Covid-19 pandemic situation.

TCL is a company that makes displays, and is also involved in some display-dependent product categories that extend from TVs to prototype flexible-screen phones of different designs compared to those found on the market today. It has published its sales report for 1Q2020 with respect to its big-screen offerings.

The company has noted that it sold 6.73 million TVs in total for this quarter, 4.27 million of which were TCL-branded. This number was down 20.2% YoY, a reduction thought to be influenced by the current public health emergency.

TCL also noted that sales of its branded TVs also decreased by 52.1% in the North American market in 1Q2020. However, it wasn't all bad news for the company: its European sales increased by 43.9% in the same quarter (although Covid-19-related losses in this market may become apparent later on).

Finally, the uptake of newer and more premium kinds of TV may have grown in 1Q2020 for TCL. Its smart TVs accounted for 88.1% of the total sales of its own-brand devices, whereas its 4K TVs represented 50.7% of the same. In addition, the sale of TCL products with QLED displays increased 217.1% YoY in the first quarter of 2020.
