Suunto is currently rolling out an update (firmware version 2.50.26) for a number of smartwatch models, such as the Suunto Vertical. This is a comprehensive update that offers significant improvements for a wide range of athletes. According to the changelog, the new software allows sensors connected to sports modes to be activated and deactivated individually. There are also new, preconfigured modes for duathlon and swim & run. In swim & run and triathlon mode, there is now a function for automatically changing the sport. This means that the watch switches to the next activity without any user input. In our opinion, such a feature should be relatively easy to implement, as the movements recorded by a smartwatch in the transition zone differ significantly from those recorded while swimming, cycling or running.
Suunto also lists a number of improvements. Newly paired sensors are now automatically activated in compatible sport modes, and the data field for displaying a map is now clearer. Weather data can now be received not only via Bluetooth but also via Wi-Fi. The altimeter now displays more stable values, and ascent and descent calculations have been improved. Moreover, swimming in a pool or outdoor pool yields more accurate readings.
The changelog list is quite comprehensive, so users can expect various bug fixes and further performance enhancements.
