FiiO is launching the M33 R2R, a new player that fills the gap below its flagship M27 and makes audiophile R2R technology more affordable. Equipped with Android 13, a Snapdragon 680 processor and a powerful 1100 mW output, the player is expected to cost around $600.

FiiO is further expanding its range of R2R hardware with the launch of the M33 R2R, a new player that fills the gap below its flagship M27. R2R technology is a classic form of digital-to-analog conversion that uses a network of high-precision resistors instead of a modern standard DAC chip. This architecture is considered by audiophiles to be particularly natural and "analog" because it often renders music more vividly and coherently than many delta-sigma converters.

At the heart of the M33 is a fully differential 24-bit R2R resistor network that delivers precisely this desired sound. To ensure that the sound is not only charming but also powerful, FiiO has installed a multi-stage TI amplifier that delivers up to 1100 mW per channel. This is easily enough to power not only sensitive in-ear headphones but also power-hungry over-ear headphones.

The M33 is powered by solid technology that ensures smooth operation. A Snapdragon 680 combined with 8 GB of RAM and Android 13 guarantees that streaming apps run without stuttering. The 128 GB of internal storage can be expanded via microSD, while an XMOS XU316 chip and the DAPS system keep jitter and noise in check. A 5.5-inch HD display is on board. For sound enthusiasts, a parametric 10-band EQ (including Auto EQ support) is available for fine-tuning the sound to the headphones being used.

The manufacturer specifies the battery life as up to 14 hours, which is more than adequate for everyday use. As for price, which is estimated to be around $600/£449, FiiO is positioning the M33 R2R as an option for anyone looking for a authentic R2R experience without having to invest four-figure sums. The device is expected to be available on the market in the first quarter.

A special highlight for nostalgics will also follow in the first quarter of 2026: the FiiO Retro Box. This is a speaker that can be used with the M33 as a source, with the display showing a digital cassette.
