Suunto has updated its diving wearable series with two new models. Launching simultaneously, the Nautic and Nautic S are fundamentally different devices. However, the pair could be used simultaneously when diving.
Dealing with the former first, the Nautic is a dive computer that looks like an oversized smartwatch. To that end, Suunto equips the Nautic with a 3.26-inch AMOLED display that resolves at 720 x 382 pixels and sits within a 101 x 60 x 23.7 mm housing that weighs 227 g or 232 g with an elastic textile strap. Additionally, the dive computer offers 200 m water resistance and 80-190 hours of battery life.
Moreover, the Nautic boasts GPS connectivity with 32 GB of storage for offline maps, as well as a digital compass. The same is true for the smaller Nautic S, although its battery life estimates drop to 40-60 hours when diving. Also, the Nautic S is only waterproof to 100 metres. Unfortunately, the Nautic S also lacks many smartwatch features like a heart rate sensor, despite giving the impression that it could double as a smartwatch thanks to its 1.43-inch AMOLED display, which resolves at 466 x 466 pixels.
Suunto has priced the Nautic S at $499, a $200 saving on the Nautic with a Bungee cord and $400 less than the Suunto Ocean that launched last year (curr. $899 on Amazon). With that being said, Suunto charges $725 for the Nautic with an Elastic Textile Strap and $999 for a variant with a Bungee Cord attachment and a Tank Pod.
