The Approach S44 and Approach S50 are in line for a fresh stable update following the release of System Software 7.15 at the end of last month. To recap, last month's update replaced v6.xx builds with a host of bug fixes and an updated Round Summary screen to match that of the Approach S70 (curr. $559 - refurbished on Amazon).
Garmin does not run a public beta program for the Approach S44 or Approach S50. In other words, the company distributes all of the pair's updates via its stable software channel. Consequently it also pushes interim stable updates, which the newer System Software 7.16 falls under. According to the company's forum posts, System Software 7.16 serves to fix a single outstanding issue, albeit one that Garmin considered serious enough to release an entire firmware update.
Specifically, the company claims to have addressed a bug that prevented activity data handling from working correctly. Garmin claims that System Software 7.16 should now be available to download across all Approach S44 and Approach S50 smartwatches. If your smartwatch is running older software, then you can request System Software 7.16 manually by navigating through the Settings menu to System and then Software Update before tapping 'Check for Updates'. Please see Garmin's Approach S44 and Approach S50 forums for more details about Garmin's latest updates.
