The Garmin Descent X50i premium dive computer is receiving a new update, system software 4.05. This wearable was last updated in July 2025 with system software version 3.18, which brought improved touch controls.
The latest updates add Weather & Tides and Notifications apps to this wearable. The device now supports Garmin Share, and users can flip the screen vertically, allowing them to switch the position of the control buttons to the top rather than at the bottom. New NDL Aware Depth Metrics in-dive fields provide divers with more insights, and they can also get low battery warnings on the pre-dive checklist. On top of this, the battery level of a connected inReach device can be shown in the status bar, and battery statistics can be logged as part of a diving activity.
Descent X50i users can now manage system alerts in the device’s settings, and critically low tank pressure alerts are said to have been improved. Garmin has also tackled a range of bugs, linked to travel gas on the dive plan, the compass not clearing as expected, and cut-off dive charts. You can find the complete change log for system software 4.05 below.
In a post in the Garmin Forum, a representative for the company stated that system software version 4.05 has been pushed to at least 50% of users of the Descent X50i (curr. $1,499.99 at Amazon). It is unclear when this rollout will be complete. Updates for this device can be downloaded via the Garmin Dive app, Garmin Express on a computer, or on the watch itself by going to PREV > Settings > System > Check for Updates.
