With Xbox exclusives like Forza Horizon 5 debuting on the PS5, a new PlayStation Store listing temporarily fooled virtual pilots. A title called Microsoft Flight Simulator 2025 is live on Sony's marketplace. A closer look reveals what are likely AI images, imitating official Flight Simulator 2024 artwork. Also, it credits Grizzly Games as its publisher, but the Thronefall developer has since denied any connection to the game.
Redditors first found the Flight Simulator clone after noticing new trophies listed. However, the achievements didn't match those of the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 PC and Xbox versions. Once discovering the PS Store page, it became obvious that the title wasn't a legitimate Flight Simulator PS5 port.
The page for the announced Flight Simulator 2025 mentions dynamic weather and realistic visuals. Yet, there are no screenshots or videos to back up these claims. Flight Simulator 2025 VR, another PlayStation store title, is still available. While the game exists, its physics and flat-looking textures are a poor imitation of Microsoft's sim.
After reporting on the suspicious Flight Simulator title, Grizzly Games contacted Eurogamer. Best known for the tower-defense RTS Thronefall, the studio confirmed the illegal use of its name and logo. The competing Grizzly Games Limited website, named on the PS Store listing, advertises sketchy mobile games.
The Thronefall developer explained it has limited resources to pursue legal action. Of course, Sony doesn't have that issue, but it's questionable if it will remove Flight Simulator 2025. Deemed as shovelware, the gaming giant has delisted other games with obvious AI-generated assets. Nevertheless, many PlayStation users bemoan the rise of copycat efforts in the marketplace.
Like Steam, it has become more realistic for smaller developers to advertise their games on the PlayStation Store. Unfortunately, that freedom often allows publishers to take advantage of unsuspecting consumers.
