The Surface NUC1 is a new pocketable Windows tablet. However, its product name doesn’t seem to be entirely official yet, as it is listed on the X+ store under the generic name “N200 Mini PC Table PC - Desktop Pocket PC”. The device can also be viewed as a mini-PC with a battery and display. At 21.95 mm (0.86 in) thick, it is significantly chunkier than a typical tablet. The Surface NUC1 is powered by an Intel N200 processor, and a variant featuring an Intel Core i3-N305 is also expected to launch in the near future.
The tablet comes with 16 GB of LPDDR5 memory and 512 GB of storage. The included M.2 2280 SSD is user-replaceable and can connect via SATA or NVMe. The Surface NUC1 features a compact 7-inch display with a rather modest resolution of 800 x 1,280. Because Windows 11 is ultimately a desktop-focused operating system, users might face limitations when working with multiple programs on such a tiny screen.
The device is equipped with a built-in 3,400 mAh battery, three USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, one USB 2.0 port, an HDMI output, and two USB-C interfaces that support both USB Power Delivery and DisplayPort. Network connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6 and Ethernet. The Surface NUC1 is currently priced at about $290. Nonetheless, those who are interested should review the shipping options and any potential import taxes and duties before making a purchase.
For a more conventional option, you might also want to consider the AWOW 10.1-inch Windows tablet, available on Amazon.
