After No Man’s Sky, Cyberpunk 2077 is, perhaps, the game that has enjoyed the best redemption arc. Releasing more than 7 years after its first short teaser trailer in 2013, Cyberpunk 2077 was hotly anticipated, as CD Projekt Red had promised a monumental sci-fi action-adventure RPG. However, Cyberpunk 2077 was a disaster at launch.
Game-breaking bugs, atrocious performance, a lifeless open world, disappointing NPCs, middling RPG mechanics, missing features, and a lightweight story were a subset of the issues that plagued Cyberpunk 2077 at launch. However, almost five years later and with a plethora of free updates, Cyberpunk 2077 is currently one of the best open-world sci-fi action RPGs on the market. And, thanks to the Steam Summer Sale, now is the perfect time to play the game.
Enjoying a massive 65% discount, Cyberpunk 2077 is now only $20.99 on Steam, the lowest price ever for the game according to SteamDB. You can also pick up Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition for a little over $30. Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition includes the original title and the game’s only post-launch expansion, Phantom Liberty.
Cyberpunk 2077’s open world is a spectacle
With the majority of glaring launch issues ironed out and the introduction of several missing features, like a proper police system, Cyberpunk 2077’s open world is a fantastic setting. Night City contains everything one can expect from a dystopian, sci-fi megacity.
From neon signs, grimy alleys, crime-ridden districts, and shiny buildings, Night City is, arguably, one of the best-looking sci-fi cities that we’ve ever seen. Fortunately, Cyberpunk 2077’s main story, side quests, and characters make good use of this spectacular setting.
Cyberpunk 2077’s main campaign revolves around a mercenary, V, who is stuck with a biochip that promises immortality after a heist goes awry. Playing as “V”, players navigate Night City, meet new characters, take on jobs, and earn money to pay for cybernetic upgrades, all while trying to keep their consciousness safe from Johnny Silverhand, a rockstar played by Keanu Reeves.
Gameplay-wise, Cyberpunk 2077’s quests are a combination of gun fights, melee combat, driving sequences, hacking, and more. CD Projekt Red has also included some worthy RPG mechanics whereby players can customize their character through skill and cybernetic upgrades. Some of these cyberware upgrades include things like the Falcon Sandevistan to slow down time, Reinforced Tendons for double jumping, etc.
Add in plenty of shiny and destructive weapons as well as cool cars and motorcycles, and Cyberpunk 2077 is a lot of fun to play.
Cyberpunk 2077 system requirements
When it first launched in 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 was not an easy game to run. However, thanks to optimizations and the availability of better hardware, gamers equipped with a modern mid-range CPU/GPU will be able to run the game at the highest settings without extensive ray tracing. If you want the best visual and want to turn on max RT, you will need something like an RTX 5080 or an RTX 5090.
That said, the “Recommended” system requirements listed on Steam are quite forgiving:
- A Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU
- A GeForce RTX 2060 Super, Radeon RX 5700 XT, or Arc A770 GPU
- 16 GB of memory
- 70 GB of SSD space
Finally, the Steam Summer Sale is only running till July 10th. If you want to play Cyberpunk 2077 or any of the other games that are on sale, don’t wait too long.
