Specs on specs: the ultimate Asus Zephyrus G14 vs. Razer Blade 14 comparison table
(June 30, 2021 update: Corrected refresh rate values and added additional details to the table.)
If you wanted a 14-inch gaming laptop in 2020, then you would have had just one major option: the Asus Zephyrus G14. It wasn't until this earlier this month that Razer stepped up to the plate to challenge Asus with its own 14-inch system. How well can the Zephyrus G14 hold up against the newer Razer Blade 14 design?
Our table below compares all the notable features and specifications between the 2021 Zephyrus G14 and the Blade 14. The bold font signifies an advantage for that particular system. Based on our experience with both models, it's clear that Razer has the upper hand is key areas like size, core temperatures, performance, reduced ghosting, and more. It's not a good look for Asus when Razer is able to offer a smaller system that not only outperforms the Zephyrus G14, but also runs cooler simultaneously.
It's not a clean sweep for Razer, however. The Asus system is notably longer-lasting by several hours due to its 23 percent larger battery capacity. It's also a tad bit lighter than the Razer despite its larger size. The firmer key feedback makes the Asus system more satisfying to type on while enthusiasts will surely appreciate the expandable RAM. Raw CPU performance is pretty much the same between the systems as the 5900HX is more or less the unlocked version of the 5900HS.
For gaming purposes, users will definitely want to consider the Blade 14 since the Zephyrus G14 is limited to an 80 W GeForce RTX 3060 while the Razer can be configured with the 100 W RTX 3080. Display response times are much faster and smoother on the 1440p Razer configuration as well. Asus may need to go back to the drawing board for its Zephyrus G14 as its advantages over the newer Blade 14 are arguably not as significant.
