SpaceX has dropped its 'Residential 100Mbps' plan from Starlink's US site. This sudden change likely stems from high demand filling up network capacity in the areas where it was available. However, the plan is still available for users in Australia and Canada.

SpaceX launched its cheapest Starlink plan in some parts of the US last month, but the company has already removed the offering from its website and app. This $40 residential plan capped download speeds at 100Mbps and stood out because of its relatively low price compared to other options.

Starlink subscribers in the US noted on Reddit that the Residential 100Mbps option is no longer available on Starlink.com or the app. One user shared their experience regarding the change, stating, "I upgraded because I was as having a lot of family over for Thanksgiving and am now not able to go back to the 40 dollar a month option." We also noticed earlier this week that the plan was no longer offered for new users in parts of Nebraska where the service was previously available. Customers similarly spotted it being offered in parts of Illinois and Nevada before it disappeared.

The 100Mbps plan was not widely available, as it seemed to pop up in a relatively small number of areas where Starlink likely had excess network capacity. Some customers speculate that new users and existing subscribers scrambled to take advantage of the bargain deal, which caused Starlink to reach capacity in the eligible areas. The plan stood out for its low price while capping download speeds to 100Mbps.

US customers are now left with the standard Residential plan which usually costs $120 per month and advertises speeds over 400Mbps. The Residential Lite plan remains available in most suburban and rural areas in the US for $80 per month and advertises download speeds up to 250Mbps.

Interestingly, Starlink is still offering the $40 Residential plan for users in Australia and Canada. The official customer support portal also still mentions the 100Mbps offering. I’d suggest keeping an eye on Starlink's website if you were hoping to test out Residential 100Mbps because it might make a return.
