The greatly increased pace of SpaceX satellite launches in 2025, coupled with software updates to improve beam formation and terrestrial station performance, have now born fruit. The Starlink network speeds have greatly increased this year.

Starlink satellite Internet download speeds have significantly increased thanks to the unprecedented pace of satellite launches this year, and the constant software update that improved the network performance, both in orbit, and on the ground.

The 2025 Starlink speeds have risen more than 50% over the course of the year, going from a median download speed of about 150 Mbps in January, to over 200 Mbps in current readings. The median Starlink upload speed has increased in a similar way, from 20 Mbps at the beginning of 2025, to over 30 Mbps now.

To top it all off, these are the "peak-hour network-wide" numbers, and many users are reporting much higher Starlink Internet download speeds of 300 Mbps and even 400 Mbps at times.

By October 21, SpaceX had carried out 134 Starlink satellite launches with the Falcon rocket, more than the whole of last year combined and users are now feeling that capacity buildout through their own Starlink standard dish terminal that can now be found at 20% off on Amazon.

Thanks to this unprecedented pace of Falcon rocket launces, the latest Starlink V2 mini satellites now form more than 50% of the total constellation, which has contributed to the increase of download and upload speeds. SpaceX has also pushed major firmware updates that greatly improve beam forming in space, as well as the performance of its ground based stations. One of this terrestrial network updates brought the first major outage in Starlink's history, but, after the issue was resolved, users began reporting greatly increased speeds.

The Starlink ground station software updates are also being done in preparation for the launch of the new Starlink V3 satellites that are the size of a Boeing 737 when unfurled. Each V3 satellite launch carried out on the upcoming Starship 3 rocket will add 20x the capacity of the current V2 satellite launches. Those extra 60 Tbps of capacity with every V3 launch will bring about gigabit Starlink speeds in 2026, though for now the only hardware that can take advantage of those is the pricey Performance dish. It remains to be seen if the Starlink Standard Kit will also be upgraded to support download speeds of 1 Gbps or higher for individual users who might need those and are willing to pay for gigabit satellite Internet.
