The original PlayStation VR headgear is getting a bit long in the tooth, since it was launched about five years ago, but Sony is preparing for a release of its second VR headset generation, and it just revealed the naming and some of its features during the CES 2022 expo keynote event. The 2022 virtual reality device from Sony will be called PlayStation VR2, or PSVR2 for short, and its release will be joined by a brand new Horizon title. No, not Horizon Forbidden West that launches on February 18 and you can preorder right now on Amazon, but a dedicated Horizon Call of the Mountain game made specifically for the PlayStation VR2. Sony's mum on the exact PSVR2 release date and pricing, but it did list some of its new 2022 virtual reality headset features
It seems that the PlayStation VR2 set will include brand new Sense controllers which, coupled with "stunning visuals," will be bringing "a new meaning to being fully immersed into the world of Horizon." Sony already teased the PSVR2 Sense controllers last year, saying they will sport fuller game immersion by featuring adaptive triggers, a DualSense-style haptic feedback, as well as finger-touch detection. Sony's first PlayStation VR title for 2022 will feature an entirely new main character that gamers will play with, but Aloy and other franchise stalwarts will also be present. Sony is developing the PSVR2-exclusive Horizon Call of the Mountain game in collaboration with Firesprite and it just outed a teaser trailer that you can view below while you wait for more information about the VR2 headset release date and prices to come out from Sony.
