Sony WF-1000XM5: Leak reveals design and features of new flagship earbuds amid launch rumours
The Walkman Blog has revealed specifications for the WF-1000XM5, Sony's next pair of high-end earbuds. Having already announced the WF-C700N this year, it seems that Sony is planning a late spring refresh of its flagship line. Reportedly, Sony will announce the WF-1000XM5 later this week, although the company has not confirmed anything to this effect yet.
Nonetheless, The Walkman Blog has shared a screenshot comparing the WF-1000XM5 with other Sony earbuds that is consistent with an Amazon listing. Embedded below, the screenshot describes the WF-1000XM5 as weighing 5.9 g per earbud, 1.4 g lighter than the WF-1000XM4. Seemingly, the earbuds are a fair bit smaller than the WF-1000XM4, further improving comfort.
Likewise, the bundled charging comes in at 39 g, 2 g less than its predecessor. However, Amazon also mentions up to 24 hours of battery life with the charging case, a value that matches the WF-1000XM4. Regardless, it appears that Sony has improved its charging technology. Supposedly, three minutes of charge time yields an hour's playback, up from 5 minutes with the WF-1000XM4. Qi wireless charging remains though, as does a USB Type-C port on the bundled charging case. Moreover, the WF-1000XM5 should carry over LDAC support, as well as Bluetooth Multipoint and whether you are wearing the earbuds or not.
