While Huawei's recently launched Mate XT dual-hinge folding smartphone may be all the rage right now, Samsung is reportedly rolling up its sleeves to one-up its Chinese rival in 2025. The Korean giant has long been rumored to be working on a smartphone with a rollable display, which may soon be seeing the light of day.
The Elec reports that this elusive rollable smartphone will likely boast a 12.4-inch screen, edging shockingly close to laptop territory. The Mate XT for comparison, boasts a 10.2-inch display when unfolded. Samsung's recently introduced Z Fold6 (currently $1,499 on Amazon), measuring 7.6 inches, also gets dwarfed by this rumored rollable display-equipped smartphone.
The device is also expected to boast an under-display camera, The Elec adds. If the report is accurate, Samsung's rollable display-equipped smartphone will be the first of its kind to hit the consumer market. Well, at least if no other brand beats Samsung to it.
Samsung pioneered the game of bringing folding smartphones into the mainstream market, so it should not be surprising if the brand repeats history with its rollable display-equipped smartphone. Meanwhile, the brand's arch-rival Apple has yet to debut its foldable offering, which is expected no sooner than 2026 at the earliest.
