Samsung raises laptops, tablets, phone prices up to $300; Apple might be the big winner

Samsung is defying its record $38 billion Q1 2026 profit by hiking prices across its US lineup. The Galaxy Book5 series sees a flat $300 jump, while Galaxy Tab prices have increased by up to $100. With a $599 MacBook Neo and new Asus Zenbooks here, Samsung’s aggressive price hikes on older hardware may drive loyalists toward the competition.

Despite bagging a record-breaking $37.96 billion in operating profits fueled by the global DRAM shortage, Samsung seems determined to avoid taking any financial hits. Instead, the South Korean tech giant is passing costs directly to consumers, raising prices on older Galaxy laptops, tablets and phones in the US and India. Although it won’t be a surprise if prices in other regions like Europe and Asia shoot up soon.

The most significant jump affects the Galaxy Book5 series. It seems like every model in the lineup has seen a flat $300 increase. The flagship Galaxy Book5 Pro 360 now sits at $1,999 (up from $1,699), while the entry-level Galaxy Book5 has jumped from $999 to $1,299.

Bear in mind, the Galaxy Book6 series was recently launched, meaning the price hike for the older Galaxy Book5 laptops is likely hinting at a price jump across the entire Galaxy Book6 lineup.

The latest price hike extends to the Galaxy Tab family. The Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra now starts at $1,299, while older inventory like the Tab S10 Plus has been adjusted upward to $1,099. Even the budget-friendly Tab A11 Plus  is now $50 more expensive, starting at $299.

Could Samsung’s aggressive price increases push users towards Apple's MacBook, iPad, iPhone lineup?

The US price hikes follow a trend observed in India, where Samsung has raised smartphone prices for four consecutive months. As of April 8, 2026, nine more models, including the Galaxy M and F series, have seen price revisions, signaling that Samsung's strategy for 2026 is one of aggressive margin protection.

All in all, if the price increase on Samsung laptops, tablets, and phones continues to spread globally, this might push consumers to look elsewhere. For example, in the laptop space, the new Zenbook A14 and Zenbook A16 laptops from Asus offer very impressive hardware at lower prices.

On the other hand, a small company known as Apple is making a serious splash with the budget MacBook Neo ($599 or $499 for students), and the new, more powerful MacBook Air M5 and MacBook Pro M5 models, which also saw a minor price hike but this was announced at launch (only compared to older models).

Of course, Android has plenty of tablets and phones that might attract more attention after existing and potential Galaxy phone price hikes. For example, Motorola launched a tablet in the US for the first time in a while.
