The Samsung Galaxy S24 is one of the most compact flagships on the market. However, the small display also comes with a smaller battery, which, according to DxOMark's detailed analysis, achieves a shorter runtime than the Galaxy S23. The Galaxy S24 wirelessly recharges more quickly than its predecessor, though.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra (curr. $1,149.99 on Amazon) fared well not only in our tests but also in DxOMark's. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the smaller Galaxy S24 regarding its battery life. According to DxOMark, the Galaxy S24 cannot even match its predecessor's runtimes.

Specifically, the Galaxy S24 achieved 107 points, which is only good enough for 123rd place on DxOMark's battery leaderboard. As a result, the Galaxy S24 trails its predecessor and the Apple iPhone 15 despite the latter featuring a significantly smaller battery to boot. To that end, Apple installs a 3,349 mAh battery inside its cheapest iPhone 15 model, which is 16% smaller than the 4,000 mAh cell that powers the Galaxy S24.

In short, the Galaxy S24 suffers from poor runtimes when being used outdoors and when listening to music or being used on voice calls. Presumably, this is because of the handset's modem, which is the Snapdragon X75 on Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy units. Ultimately, this corresponds with our tests of the Exynos 2400 variant, which lasted 14.7 hours in our Wi-Fi tests compared to 15.3 hours for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy-wielding Galaxy S23.

Unfortunately, Samsung's 'Quick Charge' functionality is still not all that fast. With a 25 W peak charging wattage, it takes over 90 minutes to recharge the Galaxy S24's 4,000 mAh battery fully. Also, DxOMark notes that the handset needs 49 minutes to go from 0% to 80%. Conversely, the Galaxy S24 charges faster wirelessly than its predecessor, despite no official confirmation that this would be the case. Nonetheless, the Galaxy S24 needs half an hour less to reach 80% when charging wirelessly, although this took 73 minutes in DxOMark's tests.
