Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra display upgrade confirmed by popular leaker

There have been quite a few tidbits appearing about the Samsung Galaxy S24 series lately, many of them coming courtesy of the well-known leaker Ice universe. While one of the tipster's latest posts is a little vague, there is fortunately some background information to be found that corroborates the claim. In this particular post, the text simply states “I can confirm that the Galaxy S24 Ultra has finally been upgraded screen [sic]”. It’s left to the source’s followers to work out what upgrades could be in store for the future Galaxy S24 flagship.

The most obvious answer, and something that has been reported by IT Chosun, is that Samsung could use its M13 OLED material set for the Galaxy S24 Ultra display. Samsung Display is constantly working on refining and improving its OLED material sets, which it also sells to companies like Apple and Google for their flagship smartphones. For instance, the M12 set is expected to be used for all of the devices in the iPhone 15 series (it had already been chosen for the Pro models of the iPhone 14 range), while the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra was reportedly in possession of a refined M11 material set.

So, if the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra display is constructed from the M13 OLED material set, it can be expected to be an “upgrade” over its predecessor. Future owners of the S24 Ultra should expect a brighter screen on their handset (likely over 2,000 nits) and an improved power efficiency, as the materials used should allow for increased longevity. An upgraded Galaxy S24 Ultra screen might explain why there is a rumor that the premium smartphone won’t come with a larger battery than the S23 Ultra, because if the display is more power efficient then runtimes can be extended while still using the same battery capacity.
