Samsung has started rolling out its long-awaited camera update for the Galaxy S23 series, which is available to all models. According to various sources, the update has arrived in Asia and Europe first, with other markets likely following within the next few days. As the screenshot below shows, Samsung is distributing the new update as 'AWF1', which replaces last month's 'AWD1' build.
Incidentally, Samsung's official documentation contains a sparse changelog, with unspecified stability and performance improvements, plus new or enhanced features. Please that AWF1 is approximately a 2.2 GB download and features the June 1, 2023, set of Android security patches. While Samsung does not confirm what security concerns Android security patches address, Google does so in its Android Security Bulletins.
Principally, Samsung has developed AWF1 to add a 2x zoom option in portrait mode. Also, the company claims to have revised night mode processing, some examples of which @sondesix has shared on their profile. Reputedly, Samsung has dialled back the amount of processing applied in night mode with less over-sharpening. The same account notes that night mode still over-processes some scenes, though. The same update should improve autofocus and HDR performance generally too, as well as tweaking haptics and UI animations.
