The Google Pixel 2 is less than a day old, but it already visited DxOMark. The result of this visit is that the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and Apple's iPhone 8 Plus must step down and pass the crown to this new flagship. However, Samsung's phablet still has the best score in the Photo section, although its average score is smaller.
Yesterday, DxOMark published an article simply called "Samsung Galaxy Note 8: The best smartphone for zoom" and concluded that this handset can deliver the best zoom shots until that moment. DxOMark praised the Galaxy Note 8 for the high-quality zoom lens, its good noise reduction and preservation of fine details, as well as for the excellent autofocus performance. Strange enough, the low autofocus quality while shooting videos pushed down the score in the corresponding section, thus dragging the Galaxy Note 8 to the level of the Apple iPhone 8 Plus.
There is no doubt that both the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and the Apple iPhone 8 Plus are extremely good when it comes to mobile photography, but today we discovered that the new king of the mobile photography world is the Google Pixel 2. This handset managed to score one point less than the perfect 100 score achieved by Samsung flagship, but the combined result is 98 - 4 points more than its South Korean competitor. We should also highlight that the Google Pixel 2 is the best mobile for shooting videos - at least according to DxOMark, of course.
As a conclusion, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 remains the best Android handset for those who only want to take still photos using their handsets. However, videographers should grab the (apparently) amazing Google Pixel 2. At last, Apple fans in love with mobile photo/video content making should grab the iPhone 8 Plus or just wait to see if the iPhone X lives up to the expectations.
