No revolution. Apple launches the iPhone X for the iPhone's 10th birthday, which is sold in addition to the "regular" iPhones. The highlight is obviously the OLED screen with very slim bezels. The concept works really well in practice, and we did not miss the Home button.

When looking at the wealth of smartphone options now available on the market in either the IOS or Android ecosystems, there are many factors to consider, including reliability, security, hardware quality and longevity, software support (both feature-specific and security-related), management and deployment, as well as the availability of third-party hardware and software support.

The iPhone X was a huge gamble from Apple, but one that really paid off. Losing the home button and altering the design was a dangerous move, but one that was sorely needed after years of similarity and the premium design, extra power, all-screen front mix together to create - by far - the best iPhone Apple's ever made. It's impossible to give a perfect score to something that costs this much - but this is the closest to smartphone perfection Apple has ever got.

There have been reports of the iPhone X's display becoming unresponsive. During our extensive testing, we faced the issue only twice, once when running a graphic hungry game and once while browsing the Facebook app. Apple has said, in the next update this issue will be resolved. However, this does not ruin the overall experience of the iPhone X and one can overcome this issue (currently) by turning of the screen and restarting the app.

Yes, if you are upgrading from an iPhone version that is more than 18 months old, don’t really need a large phone in your hand and can actually afford the price tag. This is clearly the best Apple iPhone available at the moment. It is also the most innovative Apple has been in a while and I would buy the phone just for the convenience of the FaceID. However, this is a phone you will have to care for every second of the day, and don’t want to drop due to carelessness.

The iPhone X is the iPhone we've been waiting for. After three years of basically the same design, the X finally delivers an ambitious and forward-facing take on what an iPhone can be. But like a lot of first-generation hardware, it's not without its flaws. Face ID works, but it's not the finely-tuned perfection that is Touch ID; the new Super Retina HD display looks amazing, but it's spoiled by that notch.

The iPhone X literally has an all screen display not counting the Notch up top where the front camera and advanced 3d sensors are located, removing the iconic circular home button and fingerprint scanner for a face ID, which is not only used to unlock your phone but to make a purchase and to log-in into some apps. The iPhone X also has a 5.8” super AMOLED display and even if it has a bigger screen than the 8 plus, it still is relatively smaller. Behind it are the dual-rear cameras and a flash placed in a vertical fashion surrounded by a glass back which apple claims are made from a strong type of glass.

Apple iPhone X: Top performer for stills
Source: DxOMark English
With all of the analyses completed, the scores calculated, and the results verified, the iPhone X turns in an excellent result, delivering outstanding images for smartphone photography enthusiasts. It’s exceptional for stills, achieving the best Photo sub-score yet at 101 points. The overall score is affected by a slightly lower result for video, but at 97 points, the iPhone X ties with the Huawei Mate 10 for the second-highest score in our database of overall mobile image quality. For portraits, the improved telephoto lens delivers sharp results even indoors, and the bokeh simulation produces a natural and pleasing background blur. Outdoors, exposures are outstanding, with great dynamic range, impressive skies, good fine detail, and punchy color rendering. Add to all that the extra features on the front-facing camera, including a Portrait mode for blurred-background selfies, and the iPhone X delivers one hell of a smartphone camera.

The Galaxy Note 8 is so close, while Apple’s own iPhone 8 Plus gives you so much of the iPhone X benefit without such super expense. There’s something both familiar and foreign about the iPhone X. On the one hand, it conjures memories of earlier iPhones, with aesthetic cues borrowed from the past ten years of designs. At the same time, though, the hardware has been pushed back to the periphery as much as current technology allows it. Apple’s vision is of a smartphone being little more than a frame to the digital world, and the iPhone X is the purest expression of that we’ve seen so far.

At the end of the day, here's what you've got to remember: this isn't just an expensive, ambitious offshoot of the classic iPhone lineage. It's the future of the iPhone itself. And to be clear, Apple didn't get absolutely everything right. The notch is weird. The interface needs a little more polish. Unoptimized apps look, and will continue to look, disappointing. Still, the fact that Apple redefined what an iPhone is and got this much right is a big deal. It'll probably be another year or two before the iPhone X's design and software that runs on it will come into its own, and that's alright. After my first taste of the iPhone's future, I'm ready to buy in.

There’s a lot left to talk about the iPhone X, such as the protruding vertical camera setup on the back, camera performance, battery life and overall performance. But as far as our initial impressions go, the iPhone X actually feels premium and brings a lot of new and high-end features to the table. It’s perhaps the best that an iPhone can offer at the moment. iPhone X first impressions: some re-learning required
Source: Sydney Morning Herald English
The one thing holding most iPhone fans back will be the cost of the iPhone X. Starting at $1579, this is the most expensive iPhone Apple has shipped, and it's a good $130 more expensive than Samsung's Note8. There's a hell of a lot of impressive technology here from that OLED screen, to Face ID, to the dual camera you'd normally have to buy a Plus sized phone to get, but it's not going to be worth it for everyone. The one thing that does annoy me is there is no USB-C fast charger in the box. A premium product like this, capable of fast charging only with USB-C, should include that USB-C charger and not the standard slow one. It'd also make the phone more compatible with Apple's USB-C MacBook laptop line.

iPhone X: the cost of innovation Review
Source: Toptenreviews English
When choosing between a simple product line and creating the most innovative phone on the market, Apple chose to go with innovation. It’s hard to say how all of this will shake out and how this strategy will affect sales. OLED screen prices will eventually drop and Apple may eventually go back to a simplified product line. In the meantime, Apple has created a phone for the rich and a phone for the rest of us, and has sacrificed on its margins in the process. By all accounts the iPhone X looks to be the best phone Apple (or anyone else) has ever created, but the cost of that device might be Apple’s successful business model.

Comment

Model: The Apple iPhone X is one of the most exciting phones released this decade, but not because it offers anything particularly innovative or new. It is exciting because it is the most radical redesign of an iPhone yet, tying together a number of key trends in the industry and adding to a level of polish that will attract legions of Apple fans to upgrade. With a bold new design and a myriad of new features sure to impress everyone from casual owners to tech enthusiasts, it is bound for success. The iPhone X is not heavy, but it is definitely more phone than the Galaxy S8 and iPhone 7. It feels great in the hand, too. It is slim, efficiently designed, beautiful to look at and hold. Gone is the slippery aluminum back that many have complained about. In its place is an all-glass back. The new iPhone looks like one of the least-bezeled phones on the market. The lip on the top of the 5.8-inch screen is the only thing that gets in the way of the user and the new operating system. The effect of the wider and fuller screen is really impressive. However, what is different here is that the screen on the iPhone X extends right to the bottom of the device, with the physical home button nowhere in sight. The iPhone X has been upgraded to match its rivals, with a resolution of 2436 x 1125 on the new Super Retina HD display. The only reason the pixel count needed to be upgraded was that there is a definite boost to be had with the sharper screens that make apps look better and web-browsing a more beautiful experience. The move to the OLED display in the iPhone X has definitely brought an upgrade with the blacks deeper and the colors richer.

One of the big talking points about the iPhone X is the 'lip' at the top of the phone, where a section of the 'all-screen' display was cut out to place the cameras. The True Depth camera at the top is needed for Face ID. Face ID is a big change to the iPhone X, which is the loss of Touch ID in order to make way for Face ID, the ability to open the phone just by looking at it. Apple's method of taking in loads of different face angles, much like when a user has to position their finger around the sensor to set up Touch ID, makes a lot more sense. Apple is predictably claiming that this is one of the most secure forms of this technology out there. There is a new version of iOS 11 that develops a new way to facilitate having so much more screen to play with. The 'main display' is still the same, with the standard grid of icons. But the bottom of the phone, where the bezel and home button used to sit, has now been repurposed as the home button. A flick up from the base of the phone, which is the same way as the Control Center, will get the user to home. Pumping at the heart of the iPhone X is the new A11 Bionic chipset, designed to handle the heavy lifting the new iPhone is calling on it for. The new engine is capable of powering the extra pixels that are spread around the front of the iPhone X, as well as handling the huge power the AR sensor is calling for. On top of that, there is the general improvement in overall performance and better graphical performance. As for the battery, the biggest change is the way a user can charge the new iPhone X with wireless charging now added to the mix. However, Apple is supporting only Qi wireless charging. This will probably see Qi as the dominant wireless charging standard.

Hands-on article by Jagadisa Rajarathnam

Apple A11 Bionic GPU: First integrated GPU that was designed by Apple and not licensed by PowerVR.  Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards. » Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.
A11 Bionic: System on a Chip (SoC) from Apple that integrates a processor (six 64 Bit cores, 2 performance and 4 power saving cores). Compared to the A10X, the A11 can use all six cores. However, also the single thread performance was improved.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
5.8":

This display is quite big for a smartphone but frequently used for smartphones.

Large display-sizes allow higher resolutions. So, details like letters are bigger. On the other hand, the power consumption is lower with small screen diagonals and the devices are smaller, more lightweight and cheaper.

» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
0.174 kg:

Only few smartphones are more lightweight than this.

Apple: Apple Inc. is an American multinational corporation which designs and manufactures consumer electronics and software products. Apple software includes the Mac OS X operating system but nowadays Macbooks are also able to run Windows. Apple has at least sporadically been considered the most valuable company in the world since 2011 and has consistently ranked among the Top 10 companies in the world.

In the laptop sector, Apple's market share was 9.3% in 2014 and 10.3% in 2016. The latter corresponds to the 5th place. In the smartphone segment, Apple achieved 15.3% in the first quarter of 2016, which means a market share loss when compared to the 18.3% in same quarter of the previous year.
Nevertheless, Apple ranked second place behind Samsung in both years.

There are tons of reviews on Apple laptops, smartphones and tablets. The ratings are significantly above-average (as of 2016).

90.62%: There do not exist many models, which are rated better. The most ratings get ratings, which are a bit worse.
