Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max: Best Used with Case
Apple’s iPhone 12-series features a new design edgier language reminiscent of older Apple smartphones, and makes the devices stand out among its huge number of high-end competitors.
This is also true for its largest member, the iPhone 12 Pro Max, the largest, most expensive, and best equipped currently available Apple smartphone. This new generation is also supposed to offer improved damage protection thanks to Ceramic Shield glass.
Unfortunately, various drop tests performed online have shown that this supposed improved protection is hit and miss for the largest of this year’s iPhones. Thus, if you want to play it safe you should probably put the iPhone 12 Pro Max in a case, particularly because:
- Out of warranty screen replacements will set up back a whopping $329 plus tax.
- Warranty is limited to just 12 months.
- While you can extend this warranty to 24 months or longer via AppleCare+ it will add another $199 to the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s already high price and cost a service fee of $29 each time.
- Should you shatter the glass at the rear the entire case will have to get replaced.
Thus, if you intend to protect your $1,400 iPhone 12 Pro Max you may want to put it either in an original Apple or a third-party case.
The iPhone 12 Pro Max is still fairly large and heavy, and a case will only make this worse. And as always it always pains to hide such a good-looking device in a case. However, the resulting peace of mind might well be worth it.
