Budget smartphones are arguably just as interesting as flagships, considering that packing a whole bunch of important features while maintaining a strict price point is no small feat. The Samsung Galaxy A06 was last year's most affordable smartphone from the Korean giant, and it seems that the A07 is all set to take the same position for the ongoing year, having already been launched in Indonesia.
At its heart, the Samsung Galaxy A07 is powered by the MediaTek Helio G99 SoC, which has already blown out three birthday candles. Despite its age, the chip should be decent for basic usage and content consumption, although the future proofing aspect might be somewhat debatable. Speaking of which, Samsung claims the budget smartphone will receive a whopping six years of OS and security upgrades. However, the lack of 5G connectivity is certainly a major downside.
By the time the Galaxy A07 reaches its final OS upgrade, the G99 SoC inside will be over nine years old, which is worth keeping in mind. The SoC is paired with 4 GB, 6 GB, or 8 GB of memory, depending on the variant. Thankfully, a microSD slot takes care of expandable storage. The prices for the different variants have been listed below:
- 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage (eMMC 5.1) - $86
- 4 GB RAM + 128 GB storage - $101
- 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage - $120
- 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage - $138
A 6.7-inch LCD display graces the front of the Galaxy A07, boasting a resolution of 720 x 1600 and a refresh rate of 90 Hz. Dual cameras are on offer, including a 50 MP primary shooter and a 2 MP depth camera. An 8 MP selfie camera sits atop the display, housed in a pill-shaped cutout. The 5000 mAh battery should do a decent job keeping the device alive for a long time, and 25-watt fast charging is offered via the Type-C port (USB 2.0). A side-mounted fingerprint scanner is also present, as is IP54 dust and water resistance.
