Reviews for the Samsung Galaxy A01

A $150 phone is typically pretty basic, but the Samsung Galaxy A01 is still outclassed by other budget phones. Sure, it has a vivid display and excellent battery life, but it stumbles just about everywhere else. Its Snapdragon 439 processor sputters on all but the most basic tasks and there’s little room for installing apps, even after you go through the hassle of clearing out the bloatware.

The Galaxy A01 is a no-fuss, low-priced Android phone that is the cheapest member of Samsung's A-series of budget phones. Priced at $150 (though we've seen it on sale for as low as $100 unlocked from Samsung), the phone's bare-bones hardware and features -- like its plain design and low-resolution display-- aren't much to get excited about. But the handset covers the basics well enough that, for its low price, it should be a decent device to snap photos, check email, watch videos and, of course, make calls.

Model:
The Samsung Galaxy A01 is the latest addition to the Galaxy-A series, which offers a line of affordable mid-range smartphones. The Galaxy A01 comes with a 5.7-inch LCD screen with a healthy bezel along the bottom. The phone has been packed into a plastic material that neither feels cheap nor screams high-end. It is definitely not the type which stands out in a crowd, as it looks like any average smartphone with a simple black paint job. On the back of the Galaxy A01, there is a silver Samsung logo right in the centre, which definitely adds to its design. Overall, the back has a matte finish with the edges being smoothly curved.
The Samsung Galaxy A01 is not slippery, but fingerprints and grease do show up on the back. Fortunately, the black colouring of the device contributes to hiding such blemishes. While the power button and SIM-card slot are on the right side of the device, the volume rocker was placed the left side. In addition, there are a standard headphone jack and a microphone at the top of the smartphone. It should be noted that there is also an additional microphone at the bottom of the Galaxy A01, alongside the USB-C port.
In terms of its display, this model definitely does not sport an AMOLED display like that of the Galaxy S20 or an OLED display like the Galaxy A51, but rather a simple LCD screen, as mentioned earlier. With a display like that, the text reveals some fuzziness when viewed close up. However, the experience is an absolutely enjoyable one when it comes to viewing YouTube videos and streaming content. Apart from that, there is also a teardrop notch on the front of the display that extends to the bottom of the notification bar, but the software was made in such a way that it does not block anything.
As far as the processor is concerned, the Samsung Galaxy A01 has been equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 processor with 2 GB of RAM. With this setup, there is some possibility of slowdowns during gaming and even during setup. The processor is powering Android 10 with a Samsung user interface layered in. In terms of its cameras, the device carries two camera lenses. There is a main 12-megapixel lens, standard view with no ultra-wide view. The smartphone has also been equipped with a 2-megapixel depth lens, which helps with Live Focus, Samsung’s bokeh effect for photos. It should be noted that both these lenses can tap into an LED flash for help with low-light settings or night photos.
In terms of its battery, the Samsung Galaxy A01 has been packed with a 3,000mAh battery which can be charged via the USB-C port at the bottom. Owing to the fact that the model carries a matte plastic back, the device does not support wireless charging of any kind. Overall, the phone fits the bill as a lower-range phone, but it has its own drawbacks to be considered, especially compared to other models from Chinese manufacturers such as Oppo, Xiaomi and Vivo.

It is a very small display format for smartphones. You should by no means be mis-sighted and you will generally see very little on the screen and only have a small resolution available. In return, the device should be very small and handy.

68%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
