Reviews for the Xiaomi Redmi 8
Everyday usage reveals unexpectedly large differences between the Redmi 8 and its sibling, the Redmi 8A. We shall discuss below in which areas the cheap Redmi 8 improves upon the Redmi 8A and why its MSRP of 115 Euros (~$127) is worthwhile.

The Redmi 8 is a good offering for its price of Rs 7,999 considering the big battery, and decent performance coupled with a stylish design. The weak point is the camera, which remains an issue on budget phones. The only problem is that given similar specifications, many users might prefer the Redmi 8A which is cheaper, runs the same processor and offers something very similar.

Overall, I believe if you're looking for a good budget phone the Redmi 8A makes more sense. The Redmi 8A starts at Rs 6,499 in India. If you can spend some more money and want a phone that looks great, clicks well-detailed pictures, offers great performance and battery life then there's the Redmi Note 8. The Note 8 from Redmi comes with a starting price of Rs 9,999 in the country.

Overall, the Redmi 8 offers you a great design, a good display, amazing battery life, decent cameras, and an annoying UI. Which means you actually get a pretty decent daily driver in the Redmi 8. While the Redmi 8 a great phone, I still think it's worth shelling out just that little bit more for the more capable Redmi Note 8, though.

Starting at Rs 7,999, you get USB-C port and 3 GB RAM, among other things. Even the 4GB RAM variant is available for the same price (first 5 million units only; after that you will have to fork an additional Rs 1,000). Xiaomi has definitely done some good work in key features, but a big trade-off has been in downgrade of the processor which might deter a few users. If you can ignore that, you get a decent performer that also looks beautiful and goes on and on, and some more.

Many Indian smartphone buyers are very conscious of specifications, down to the number and type of SoC CPU cores. This is especially true of young people who upgrade at least once a year and buy devices online – which is a huge swathe of the market. With the Redmi 8, Xiaomi is sidestepping raw performance and focusing on quality-of-life features as well as design. The intention seems to be to establish a firm distinction between the Redmi models and their Redmi Note siblings which are a step or two up the price ladder.

Xiaomi is debuting the Redmi 8 with a promotional discount of Rs. 1000 for the first 5 million units. That’s how confident the company is about the hardware. To be fair, it is a great piece of kit, even though it doesn’t really push the boundaries of performance or imaging. I love the look and feel of the hardware, and Xiaomi has made quality-of-life improvements in features like the battery. That matters a lot in the segment the Redmi 8 competes in. It might not be the most exciting phone around, but the Redmi 8 has plenty to offer if you are looking for a new phone in the segment.

It is a small display format for smartphones. You shouldn't be severely defective in vision, and you won't see much detail on the screen and only have a small resolution available. For that, the device should be small and handy, easy to transport.

69.89%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
